There's probably not really that much still to be said about Southern California's MINDROT. Listening to these songs now, there is no doubt that they are metal, but I first heard of them as a punk band, and I imagine that is how they are still associated by most people. This tape came from Devon's collection (there will likely be more gems from his stash going up in the coming months), and along with the tape came the tale of Devon going to San Jose with Rick Ta Life (careful, the link is loud) to check out MINDROT with PLUTOCRACY and EXHUMED - I can only imagine that trip was....a trip. Mid tempo, booming, proto-anarcho-death-metal from pre-DYSTOPIA members.

I still have my copy of this tape, very influential to me in developing Subsanity into a more punk influenced metal band. This tape along with Eps by Apocalypse,A//Solution,Plutocracy,Glycine Max,Tyrannicide helped me steer clear of the Roadrunner sound and the dreaded groove/Pantera thing by showing us that we could be heavy and DIY/punk at the same time.I never cared for Mindrot's full length CD,lacked the rawness and brutal dirges that this tape has.One of the best demos of the early 90's!
agreed fully on the full length, I was left kinda flat by this band until I came across the demos. I've always thought that if only SUBSANITY had been from somewhere other than Oklahoma, that your demos would be held in the same light as bands like this... geographical discrimination!!
good shit. cheers.
I liked the full length, so def looking forward to hearing the demo! Thanks for the share!
this fucking rips...exactly what i needed to hear! thanks duder!
Love this Demo, I remember 1994 when I first listened to this band! I still have my tape (A friend copied for me) growing up in Colombia and now living in Costa Rica for 13 years and not having too many contacts to share music with, this was like traveling back to those times! I really appreciate you posted this! to me it is a masterpiece that can never be compared to what those guys are doing now! not sure if it's the same line up they kept 'til 98 but it's not the same, this is DEMO is GOLD!!!
