TUNGA PENETRÁNS

What a gloriously filthy quarter hour these punks have offered us...and I will accept their offer with verve and enthusiasm. Chaotic, blown out, stripped down Hungarian DBeat delivered with the weirdest fukkn style imaginable. I(t's a sound you've heard before....you just haven't heard it quite like this. Listen to the guitar (and the vocals) on "Leépülés" if you don't believe me.

BATTOSAI-A

Lo-fidelity raw fastcore blast mania - this is exactly the shit that we freaked out about then, and this is exactly the shit you need to listen to now. Blast "Television Shit" and tell me you aren't on our side? Well, I'll tell you that you aren't on our side. Lunes drawn, motherfucker.

BANGUN DARI MIMPI BURUK YANG INDAH

More like this please? Thank you. A breathtaking collection of raw fastcore, mince/grind, noise, shit-fi and punk, all delivered with a brilliantly honest lack of fidelity. DESTRUCT, PROJECT BABI NO.9, DEVIATED SYMPHONY, DIRTY MOUTH, NOISE FOR VIOLENCE and more, all hailing from Yogyjakarta. Shit just feels real, and the next 42 minutes of your life are about to get a lot more brutal.

TERRITORY

This dude who works with me brought me this tape and a vegan BLT hoagie sandwich from Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, he brought the sandwich from the east coast, and it was (still) delicious. Also this TERRITORY tape is a blown to shit DBeat beast....so I won twice. You only win once - you're just gonna have to trust me about the sandwich.

SATELLITE vs. PROLETAR

Strap in, young punk/s. I don't think you're ready, but honestly I don't think anyone is ready for this assault. PROLETAR with a unbridbled white-knuckle fastcore/grindcrust assault - shit is simply terrifying to listen to, even more so than the Rakyat Jelata tape I posted last year. And then there's SATELLITE, godfathers of the Jakarta crust scene dishing out maniacal metallic raw crust. Check "Amerika = Imperialist" and think about your life. Then reach for the volume knob (or toggle switch thing or whatever) and drown yourself in noise.

SEMARANG INDEPENDENT YOUTH

The title (and cover) should tell you everything you need to know here - fourteen raw punk tracks from the tail end of the first wave of DIY Indonesian hardcore. G-SQUAD, COP IS DEAD, PSYCHOTIC ILLUSION, REJECT, EJAKULATOR, 921 SUCKS, MORTAL SYATEM, LAYUR RIOT and a few more that you've never heard of unless you're way cooler than me (which, now that I think about it, isn't a terribly difficult accomplishment). Some "skinhead" tracks as the title suggests, but listen to the sonic brutality of NIHIL and know that this is ferocious street punk with some backing 'whooa-oooh's in the chorus. The recording and replication quality are part of the charm here and fidelity seekers will be suitably disappointed - the real punks will know that SUCK IT FRUIT sounds better when SUCK IT FRUIT kinda sounds like shit.

CULVERT CORPSE

Got a nice little package from the Sewercide folks last week. I say "when" when what I really mean is "filthy," of course. Three offerings from Halifax's newest export and tariffs be damned because this fukkr is worth every penny and more. You want my lazy comparison? '90s DIY crusters recording primitive black metal on a boom box and using a kindergarten synth for the leads. Yup, it's as good as you think it is. "Blood Streams" is relentless knuckle dragging raw NABM and worth the price of admission on its own....but what about "Warpath," you ask? well it sounds like a fucking war path, obviously. This was the only tape in the package, so you're going to have to seek the MISANTHROPIC MINDS // HÄPEÄ split on your own - it shouldn't be too hard to find.

MIDHUMANS

Early, raw Indonesian hardcore captured live in 1999 (as the title suggests). Prepare yourself for a sonically blistering listen, and then reward yourself with another live recording from a reformed MIDHUMANS almost twenty years later....just as raw and only slightly more cohesive. If it worked in the '90s....why fukkn change, right? Aside from a couple of comp appearances, this is the only MIDHUMANS output I can find - not for the weak listener but more than worth it for the die hards.

BANDA DES FEMER // SVNYA

Ramshackle buzzsaw Spanish punk from the only two bands I've ever heard of from Menorca. You've heard of Mallorca? Welcome to Menorca. I think these punks are mostly Barcelona based now, but hoooooooooo boy does this shit scratch an itch if you like your punk ignorant and raw.

DEATHRACE

Look at the cover and image how DEATHRACE sounds. You're close, but they're better. They are looser and more intense than you expect. The high end is more in your face than you expect. The brutality of the repetition in the title track is noteworthy inandof itself, but it's a theme for the entire recording and that's what makes DEATHRACE so fucking good. Simplicity meets ferocity, DBeat mania delivered with reverence and respect.

RIBAG SUDE

14 minutes of fierce and relentless raw Indonesian DBeat released in 2021.
Bleak sounds for a bleak reality.

OPIOD CRISIS

This is the kind os post that could end up as one declarative sentence or a stream of drool and babble while I fall over myself trying to explain and/or define every nuance - logically it will end up somewhere in the middle but the point will be the same: Do. Not. Skip. This. There's something in the water in Vienna these days, and there are some kids there who rival 2000s Boston in their ability to take a thing, emulate it, and make it their own. First it was BACKYARD, who worshipped at the altar of PLUTO/NO LESS/DOOMRYDERZ. Then I heard TONAL SHIFT and I couldn't stop thinking about that show in Pomona a lifetime ago (mostly TOTAL FURY though). And then there was this....three pieces of low end distorted filth that bridge a gap between DYSTOPIA and hell. I implore you to focus on the way OPIOD CRISIS use distortion and recording limitations to make "Prenatal Exposure" (particularly the beginning) sound as demonic as anything I've heard - the song itself feels possessed. And then there's the title track "Favelas De Brutas," a seven-plus minute opus that left me absolutely stunned. These kids take their craft so much further that simple worship, and I can only imagine what it will be like when they make their next move.

ZUDAS KRUST

I like the ZUDAS KRUST approach. Lots of releases (so many you can't really get a handle on them all) featuring tracks from the same recordings. You regurgitate songs and sessions because what are the chances that punks are going to seek out every single one...right? Nah, punks are looking for something to pop into the deck and crank up while they clench a fukkn fist - how many people are going to know that half of these tracks are from the Matanza Y Muerte Masiva tape that I posted more than eight years ago...? Not many. So here you (all) are again: one half hour of raw and uncompromising DBeat hardcore from the streets of Jakarta. Maybe it's all been released on other tapes and/or CDrs....but have you blasted "Punx Cinta Damai" today? Well....? No? Then you're welcome, because this shit is next level. Also they cover that SHITLICKERS song (again).

NAILBITËR

Five minutes of buzzsaw Indonesian kång. Really can't think of a better way to lay the foundation for the first full week of June. Look at at the calendar and wonder where the first half of the year went, blast "Nation On Fire" and wonder where your life is going.

RAMPAGEOUS // DICKHEAD

What happens when the noise is not manufactured? When the chaos is simply the inevitable result of going too hard and too fast and not giving a fukk? DICKHEAD happens. What happens when you want to grind so desperately that you don't care whether or not you are capable of grinding effectively? When you grind anyway? RAMPAGEOUS happens. Suffice to say that this split is not for the faint hearted or for fidelity hunters.

DEAD PROPAGANDA

As if I wasn't already sold by the face melting ferocity of the opening track "Diskrininasi Rasial," DEAD PROPAGANDA drop this ridiculous double bass into the outro for maybe three seconds and I swear it felt like the clouds parted and the heavens were exposed. The sixteen minutes that follow are pure, harsh, chaotic....a gorgeous display of raw thrashing political grindcrust. Virtually no low end, minimal fidelity and no slow parts, just in your face and unforgiving DIY hardcore.

12 May 2025

TOTAL DESTROY

Six bursts of guttural grind/crust and an eight minute 'live' session from Bulungan Stage (I have no idea what or where that is). The whole damn thing is over in twelve minutes, so I encourage you to listen to "Sistem Bobrok" twice. At least twice. Then "Berontak." Fuck, just listen to the entire fukkn tape, okay?

BRAIN KILLER

Damn, this band is severely under appreciated. Maybe there were just too many bands doing *this* at the time, but really I think it swas because there were a heap of other  bands who were doing this a few years earlier and punk attention spans are criminally short. But hindsight is a motherfukkr, and the BRAIN KILLER material doesn''t just hold up - the shit shines. Raw, powerful, noisy, manic hardcore punk from Boston - live shit, some covers, punk, no song titles, no compromise, off the rails. And also punk.

IVY

Mid-decade Big City freak style on full display with Public Access, capturing two IVY offerings from 2013 & 2014. The "Hooks? Yes. Fidelity? No." model is an extremely effective one, so much so that I found myself revisiting the EPs to see if I liked them as much as I enjoyed feeling this distortion pierce my skull. Fun fact? I didn't. Now I do. It's all about "What You Know," you know? Then feel the guitar on "Antsy" for the win.

INYECCION

I remember having a hard time putting INYECCION in a box that made sense when this bomber dropped a few years ago. By the time Porqueria came out I think the collective punk world had more or less figured out what do 'do' with them, but this demo was a complete head scratcher. You know the sounds - raucous Japanese pogo, Latin American anarcho/DIY hardcore and fierce UK punk are all here in spades - and INYECCION make it feel like you haven't heard them all together like this. Full force dupa-dupa with ferocious shrill vocals trading off with a sharp bark...and that guitar. GAI caliber sonic damage giving these riffs the fukkn business. I figure folks probably lumped them in with THE WANKYS and the like (right?) and they weren't wrong if they did. For me.....? I'm gonna lump them into their own fukkn world.
