The number of scenes and subgenres and social cliques that make up the various punk scenes in virtually any major city is mind boggling, but I am still sometimes amazed at how great the divide can be. LIVID played at Thrillhouse last weekend, and I felt like a complete outsider all night long, even though I was just a few blocks from my house. It ruled. To be in a room packed with so many people who are completely in their element is amazing, even (especially) when you are out of yours. The bands were good (check out SEX HAIR if you missed it earlier), but LIVID were better than good. Their sultry and aloof approach to writing songs creates a sound that is unlike anything I've heard, even if the songs themselves are presented within the admittedly narrow confines of punk. The opening riff to "Be Kind" is as instantly addictive as anything I've heard since NEON PISS, and they are easily two of my favorite current bands. I imagine Diane will have copies of the tape on the OPT OUT tour, and if you live in the waistline of America, then I suggest you come and get one.

All mentioned are fine bands and have killer demos. Looking forward to seeing Opt Out later this month. Kudos, man.
i've found livid to be one of the most powerful bands i've come across in a while - both recorded and live. there's something special going on at the intersection of attitude and intent with this band: they stand for something and their performance is a crucial part of the message. it doesn't matter that they're great friends - i hope this band gets a chance to indoctrinate the bible-belted waistline of america. rumors are stirring of a coming interview for MRR - keep your eyes peeled.
You had me at "as instantly addictive as anything I've heard since NEON PISS," but had I known there's a song on here called "Bright Lights, Pubic Hair," I'd have been even more excited.
This is great so far. Thanks!
Hey, I manage/bartend a bar in Bushwick. I tend bar on Thursdays, which is when we show skate videos and play punk rock and roll music. If you or anyone in Opt Out wants to make a few bucks after your show and DJ, hit me up. I'm not a purist. "DJ" means "play what you want from your ipod and drink well drinks for free". I'd be psyched to have you and it'd be a way to pay you back for all the swell songs I've gotten from your site.
YES !
what no post's today
"James" - I'm on tour (first with Opt Out, then with Subhumans) until late April, and I will be posting sporadically until then. After tour I will be back to my one-a-day magic again....
Zachary - If only I had known before we left! Hopefully we can hang out at your joint after the show.
lame the subs aren't playing up north maybe next i don't realy need to see them every time they play always a funs show even if the play seattle the punk's there are stuck up why do us punk's tread each othere so bad i'm 40 now and it still make sense it shouldn't matter where your from or what city you live in lets unite not back stab each othere.
If you do, I'd be happy to have you. I'll make sure you guys are taken care of. And if you change your mind, even if you just want to fuck around on yr ipod for an hour, just let me know! Jah Jah from Ninjasonik is the main DJ and he won't mind if you jump on for a bit. Bummed that I'll miss the show. Got the No Statik 12" when I was just in SF and dug it plenty.
so i'm assuming you got this when you saw them. do they happen to have an email address or something so i can get in touch with them about picking up one of these tapes? google's giving me nothing, dude. thanks!

thanks dude!
holy fuck this band is incredibe
so good. find more bay area tapes.
This band shredded at limp wrist...so glad to have this demo.
Wow one of the members of this band moved back home to So Cal and we became really good friends. She told me to check out Livid and they're probably one of the best bands I've ever listened to. I live in the I.E., sadly there aren't that many creative/fun bands like Livid down here but we're trying. There is the Mentone House but that's not a place that Georgie (one of the members of Livid) and I like to go to, and of course we could always drive to Los Angeles, but I think it'd be rad to have amazing stuff where we live.
I think we semi met when Flesh World and Rakta played at the Blood Orange Infoshop in Riverside last year. That was an awesome show and I'm glad that such awesome bands played in this shitty area of So Cal. I was also glad I met Scott of Limp Wrist, he's a cutie pie for reals.
Anyways I appreciate this rip, and this blog! Thank you!
Here is a tumblr of my artwork if you could check it out. Has flyers of some of the shows I put on over here. There really isn't any contact information, but whatever. One again, thank you for uploading this!
