STAGNANT ERA

STAGNANT ERA made it onto the Mortarhate We Won't Be Your Fucking Poor LP and released a demo in 1984, but other than that, this demo seems to be just about the only contribution that these North Yorkshire punks managed to crank out. Life in Thirsk circa 1984 must have been pretty dull (Thirsk lies roughly 1/4 of the way between Leeds and Glasgow, well off the main motorway, and sits in the middle of approximately fukkall) but at least they found each other. Musically, STAGNANT ERA play pretty straight forward '70s/'80s UK punk - three songs here recorded in a proper studio and 9 rougher jams from a rehearsal tape.

Cheers Robert! Looks like the one i mention as 'probably unreleased 2nd demo' on my king of popups and other shit commercieal annoying shit website entitled uk82 discography or something. (internet explorer users only please....)

the reason i wrote that on the site was cause most of the other info got emailed to me by old friend of the band but he he never mentioned this one to their discography. i then found info about it in some zine that i downloaded and after a while found yet another review of this tape. the tracklisting in the last article was described to the uk82.150m.com/bandlist so i assumed it was rare as hell and would never turn up, so - fuck yes Robert! thanks!

and.. forgot to say - this guy above never replied to my question about it...

i checked the tracklist for the 2nd demo again and i still miss some songs. some songs from this tape was also uploaded here earlier on terminal escape in the "V/A trasher the cat's faves... post". (4 songs), and V/A it can work +V/A Potential migrane...

Thanks to both of you Rob and Gabe.
there is still some more tunes to track down from this mentioned demo though... i will hopefully find them someday....

About their name i would suggest it might stand for "Stagnant Error" which sounds like the real title by their accent? just a guess??

and yes. last forgotten thing - they usually are mis-titled as "stagnEnt era" and therefor hard to get info about ;)

i was the original guitarist for stagnant era - that was what we were supposed to be called though Stagnant error might have been better. I like the comment about the accent - only a yorkshireman could get away with the nowt nowt nowt chorus!
I think this was recorded by the other 3, after i left the band cos i moved to Leeds (yes Thirsk is the middle of nowhere-i couldnt wait to leave but i have ended up back in that area- not a bad place to ride out the coming meltdown...) - It was recorded in a studio in Stockton. while - i was sat with the engineer, when they were playing, Roy Chubby Brown rang up! The studio was that flash that he just turned the speakers off and they were silently thrashing away while i earwigged half a conversation with the North Easts favourite foul mouthed comedian.

I think this was the last thing they ever did and i didn,t know it had been passed around - i only remembered it existed when i saw this. I am not sure if there were any more tracks recorded.
