ATRAKO

I snagged this from Irv a few days before he went to jail on some bullshit last year (he's a free man today, as he should be), and lagged super hard on sharing it with you. ATRAKO is like the a bridge between the energy of early '00 fast hardcore bands from LA (HIT ME BACK, LIFES HALT, TRAGATELO) and the scene that cropped up around South Central several years later (RAYOS X, TUBERCULOSIS) - fast, driving hardcore punk with manic drums, crazy hooks and distant, strained high pitched vocals. No song titles, no artwork, just nine killer bangers with an honesty that cannot be faked (pay special attention to tracks six and seven). Sorry you had to wait so long, but I can assure you it was worth it.

I've blabbed about ATRAKO before, but....will you please just listen to me? Because I'm right sometimes, and this is one of those times. ATRAKO deliver powerful, in your face punk and it's just so damn good. I've talked about the band before, and I haven't changed my mind.

Second (and last?) demo from LA's ATRAKO came a couple of years after No Hay Futuro... (which came out a couple of years after Irvin hooked me up with a copy of the recording), but no matter really because everything is on this tape. That first demo is raw and pissed, while the five tracks on Contaminados harnesses some of that rage and reigns in some of the wild edges. Some of them, because it's still a kick in the face. Six live songs (in less than seven minutes) close out the tape and leave me wondering who more people didn't talk about this band during the exceptionally fertile 2010s explosion. But fuck it, because here they are now.

Perhaps this comp is better suited for a Monday, but I don't want to confuse things by mixing up the two quasi-designated days of the Terminal Escape week. Five Los Angeles area bands on this cassette - five different brands of destroyed and chaotic hardcore. CONDITION and ASPEX have visited The Escape before (these CONDITION tracks are rawer but no less killer and "Bombed Out" might be the crucialest jam on this tape, while ASPEX...well, they are also rawer here but no less killer), and we are graced with new visitors ATRAKO (embracing the raw punk world's newfound love of '80s anarcho goth on one track and then ripping my face off with lightning fast hardcore with the other two), PESSIMIST (injecting bleak metal into a raw ponk attack) and MAL PASO (if there is a guitar then I certainly can't hear it, just raw forceful pogo hardcore). Perhaps you might find it interesting that the best song on the tape might be the uncredited instrumental that closes it, or perhaps you just might want to fukkn rage - either way, you are about to enjoy the shit out of the next half hour of your chaotic raw punk existence.
