Maybe someone can help the rest of us out here? Apparently this cassette is the sole release from Georgia's NEATO TORPEDO, and it came out in 1990 on Selfless Records. The same Selfless Records who fucked with everyone from ANTISCHISM and DROPDEAD to JAWBREAKER and THE QUEERS, so naturally I'm gonna pay attention...right? Well this one came before all of those and it's straight late college town proto-grunge. The kind of shit that was, like, kinda GIN BLOSSOMS but they still played the punk shows. That was a think in college towns in the early '90s, I swear. This was recorded in 1989, which means that less than two years after this tape, Selfless Records would release ANTISCHISM records. Good job, Selfless Records. And also, the track "Tom" is really good.

Woooow, in all seriousness, I'd completely forgotten about this. If you'd asked me, I could have only told you that the only cassette that I'd released was a compilation tape of bands from Augusta that was made as a fund raiser for Amnisty International. I have zero idea how this was rediscovered. Great job.
I used to help do Selfless Records and later Clearview records for a good chunk of the 90s. I had zero recollection of this so I reached out to the man himself, Todd Selfless/Clearview. He tells me; "Yeah, i remember the band from back then but i don't believe it came out on selfless records. I only did one cassette back in Augusta and that would have been the very first thing ever released on selfless. It was a tape as a fund raiser for amnesty international. Neato torpedo may have had the selfless name on it but I didn't actually put it out." D.
I was the drummer in Neato Torpedo. Stepping Back In was indeed a release on Selfless Records on Cassette only. We released a second album on our own label called Mudgroove that as far as I know is lost to time. We re-formed in 2001 and released an album called Proposes A Toast on our own label Gun Up Records followed by another cd called Citizens Band on the same label.
A friend and I stumbled on the Mystery Machine while we were stationed in Augusta in the Army. (It was a weird time.)
