When ACEPHALIX landed in the late 20000s no one really seems to know what happened or how to react. After a couple of demos and their bulldozer debut on Prank, they seemed to migrate organically out of the DIY punk realm and when Southern Lord released Deathless Master in 2012 I honestly didn't even notice for a while...now, a decade later, this is still kicking my ass. Old school death metal churn clashes with DBeat stench and ACEPHALIX emerge from the depths as an unheralded monolith. To be held "In Arms Of Nothing" all damn day is to understand the sonic manifestation of involuntary solitude.

Really like these guys. I saw them play quite a few times in '09. They were like a crustier hybrid of Eyehategod and early Hatebreed. Then they actually played with Eyehategod. Good shit. My old friend Jeff recorded Deathless Master. It's kind of an underrated death metal record, in my opinion. Maybe just because not a lot of people were getting into that sound at the time. If Deathless Master came out today, perhaps it would've been better received. And I don't mean to say nobody liked Acephalix back in the day. They always played for a pretty decent crowd (IIRC). But now it's like we're getting into an OSDM revival with all these younger bands bringing back that late 80's buzzsaw tone popularized by Obituary, Entombed, Dismember and Grave.
