VILE INTENT

These dudes just get meaner sounding. Cavernous powerviolence with lurching blasts, rumbling low end a level of discomfort that permeates the entire recording, but is especially evident when VILE INTENT slow down. Seven songs in as many minutes, this third cassette (the plastic shell version of the EP by the same name) came my way ages ago, and I have been remiss in not sharing it before now...

I was pleased that Canada's VILE INTENT were every bit as ferocious live as their recordings suggest. Taking liberal cues from classic powerviolence as well as modern purveyors like THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE, these Canadian crushers unleashed their second EP earlier this year. It is great, and they were nice enough to make it available on cassette.

The previous recordings are good, several have visited The Escape over the years, but their final release in 2015 was an absolute monster. From the sinister off the rails blasts of "Each Their Own" to the muted chugs "Boundless Informant," VILE INTENT rarely stay on one trajectory long enough to let you feel comfortable...resulting in a decidedly uncomfortable listening experience. And that's the point. "Demon-Haunted World" is the soundtrack to getting your ass kicked, being scared that it's going to happen again...and then getting your ass kicked again and having to walk home by yourself. In the dark. If there's hope in these sounds then I surely cannot find it.
