DIDAKTISCHE EINHEIT

ZZK Tapes has embarked upon a daunting and amazing journey - documenting the early '80s West German experimental music scene and reissuing some of the more interesting artifacts. If the first release is any indication, then I am absolutely along for the ride. Dosis 6 was one of seven tapes released by DIDAKTISCHE EINHEIT in 1982, a dizzying collection of recordings that blurred divisions between early industrial, Krautrock, no wave and sheer experimentation. "Frömmigkeit" is the closest to a jam, a six minute argument presented as a song based on one repetitive two note riff and stark vocals coming from all directions, while "Mutterleib" is pure demented ABWÄRTS glory and "E-norm-ton" is a near 20 minute session well worthy of HAWKWIND comparisons. I've listened to this countless times - it acts as a collection of sounds and a window into a community of musicians and artists that were absolutely a reflection of their time and their place in the world. ZZK are just getting rolling, but I am eagerly waiting to see where they take me.
