MOONSCAPE // SMUT

 

It was almost ten years ago when I last posted MOONSCAPE, and I focused on their dark energy. That energy is arguably even more present on this SMUT split. Any if you want to talk about energy.....SMUT is everything you want in a punk. You've had them before but (if you're like me) it's been a minute and this split is a good reminder. "Thirst Trap" is the best punk song you'll hear today.

Worth noting that this tape sounds murky as shit in the best and punkest way imaginable.

MARVELOUS

 

Wild Japanese fastcore in the early '00s tradition with all of the hooks and quirks that made that shit stand out (think FUTURES / JRRH and the like, but with a bit more melody from the riffs). It's over in a flash, but MARVELOUS leave their mark and then some over eight absolute rippers. Crew For Life manifested the wax, and the fine folks at Thrash Tapes were nice enough to repackage inside a plastic shell for Western consumption - I can only imagine what these cats are like live (but I'm gonna assume it's killer).

COMPLETED EXPOSITION

 

I wish I could describe the detonation that was COMPLETED EXPOSITION when they landed in California a lifetime ago (it was only something like ten years, but still). Absolutely unhinged sonic savagery that projected vibes that you just needed to soak up. It was no different when we shared a floor with them in Osaka on the last CFD tour, except that seeing them on their own turf might have been ever better (even though I knew what to expect). This band isn't a secret - 625 and RSR have released records and there are splits with BASTARD NOISE, WOJCZECH and EXTORTION among others, but this six minute detonation started it all twenty years ago. TO say that the shit "holds up" would be a criminal understatement.
