PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES

Chicago 1990s chaotic hardcore seems to be synonymous with that band named after the Death Wish dude, but I think of bands like MY LAI, DANGER MOUSE and PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES. While demos from the first two are in store for the future, this Sunday is a ten song scorcher from PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES - perhaps 9 of the angriest minutes I've shared on The Escape. Insane powerviolence/ grind/hardcore insanity...it might not be recorded as well as a modern day incarnation of the same animal, but I challenge any and all current bands to match their careless fukking fury. I suggest putting on your "getting my ass blown out" pants on before listening to this, and if you don't have the means to listen loudly, then don't bother.

I'm guessing you already knew this but Pretentious Assholes was actually a Charles Bronson side project. It's tough to get away from them where the late 90s Chicago fastcore scene is concerned. Not that that's a bad thing.

Not a bad thing at all, but I thought that P.A. was more than a project lurking in C.B.'s shadow, so I skipped the association. Fukk I wish I had seen them more than once!

This is Chris from PA/No Slogan. While it's true that members of Bronson were involved in a lot of late '90's Chicago bands, PA was definitely not a Charles Bronson side project! Aaron joined the band for a while after his stint in CB but we'd already done a demo, a 7", and been on a bunch of comps before he joined.
That said, I'm just happy to see that some people remember who the fuck we were! And if you have any, I'd love to see some posts of actual Bronson side projects like Rat Babies, Dr. Lunch, Christ Mess, etc...most of my tapes from that era were destroyed in a flood.

Cheers Chris...thanks for stopping by.

I WISH I had even a small chunk of that '90s Chicago stuff (or many other midwest cities, for that matter), so until I get that gift of crap someone is about to throw out, you'll have to look elsewhere.

(And yes I am currently accepting gifts of crap no one else wants- but preferable in the form of cassettes. Records work just fine too...)

dangermouse/my lai demo rips would be so sick.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I've only heard the PA songs off the Possessed to Skate comp and have wanted more for a while. A My Lai demo rip would definitely rule.

If you ever come across a Billy Builders tape or Christ Mess demo that would be awesome.

Any chance of a re-up on this and the My Lai post?

Thanks.
